Queens Center Creates Wall of Thanks for People to Share Sentiments
As Americans struggle with Tuesday's events, many are showing their support of the country by flying flags. This weekend, Macerich Company (NYSE: MAC) is partnering with communities nationwide by distributing hand-held flags and flag etiquette guides at all of its mall properties."We cannot begin to express our sadness for Tuesday's victims," said Susan Valentine, senior vice president of marketing for Macerich Company. "Many people are at a loss as to how they can help, so we wanted to open up our malls as a place where people could come together and respond as a community."
Macerich malls nationwide are supporting relief groups including the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army by setting up collection sites. In addition, many properties are displaying banners and providing note cards for shoppers to write sentiments to rescue workers. As an example, at Queens Center in New York, a Wall of Thanks was established this week for people to share their condolences with the families of the victims and express their feelings about the tragedy.
Also this weekend, the malls are conducting ceremonies that involve local government leaders, offering public recitals of the "Pledge of Allegiance," conducting blood drives, partnering with local police and fire departments, and raising funds for groups in need.
Macerich Company is one of the nation's largest owner/operators of regional malls. For more information on Macerich, visit www.macerich.com .
