Macerich Announces Tax Treatment Of 2016 Dividends

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 9, 2017  /PRNewswire/ -- The Macerich Company (NYSE: MAC) today announced the tax treatment for dividend distributions taxable in 2016 on its Common Stock.

During the calendar year ended December 31, 2016Macerich paid dividends of $4.75 including a $2.00 special dividend to shareholders of record as of November 12, 2015 which was paid on January 6, 2016. Pursuant to relevant U.S. tax rules, as shown in the table below, a portion of this dividend in the amount of $0.21 was treated as having been paid by Macerich on December 31, 2015 and received by each shareholder of record as of November 12, 2015 on December 31, 2015.

Macerich hereby designates $3.60 of its 2016 dividends as "capital gain dividends".

The 2016 dividends are classified for income tax purposes as follows for The Macerich Company, Common Stock, CUSIP # 554382101:
